The purpose of this training which will be held outside at Ferntop Nature Preschool is to engage participants in nature in hands-on nature based experiences using three new pedagogical practices designed especially for fostering children's mental models or schemas as they deeply explore 6 patterns of play: hiding/revealing; making/unmaking; carrying/placing; attaching/detaching; turning/stopping and, propelling/hindering Design of delivery: 1. Lecture with power points designed to introduce the theory and practices of children's patterns of play 2. Large group discussions designed to illustrate pedagogical practices 3. Small group experiences that help participants understand both children's patterns of play 4. Group and self-reflection
