This presentation will begin with an interactive activity in which we all watch a youtube video dance along representing different patterns. Then I'll survey the whole group of participants through an interactive discussion on their knowledge about early math development, specifically what topics are included and how they should promote early math knowledge. I'll then introduce through lecture the empirical and theoretical evidence that patterning is an important component of early mathematics, and highlight its inclusion in common research-based early math curricula and consensus documents such as the joint position statement from NAECY and NCTM.
