Summary
This training provides an overview of evidence-based strategies for addressing young children’s challenging behaviors in the classroom. We start with a brief overview of key behavioral assumptions (e.g., behavior is a form of communication) and how they influence the way teachers can think about challenging behaviors. We’ll then discuss how to identify why a particular challenging behavior is occurring and what might be an appropriate alternative. Next, we’ll discuss methods for addressing challenging behaviors by preventing it, replacing it, and responding to it effectively. Throughout, attendees will have opportunities to reflect individually or in their teaching teams to apply the strategies to a specific case study student from their experience.
