Summary
Early exposure to trauma can have a lasting impact on a child’s social-emotional and cognitive development. Creating a child care and early learning program that recognizes a child’s trauma and responds by integrating knowledge about trauma into all facets of the program’s structure creates an environment where children can feel safe, build trust, and have an ability to thrive. This course will outline the various trauma types and the impact trauma has on a child’s development, in addition to identifying trauma-informed practices and asset-informed organizational techniques to support children and families with trauma history in the learning environment.
