Part 1: The first section of this course will introduce J.R.R. Tolkien as an author, look at reading The Hobbit to children, teaching about fantasy, describe science fiction vs fantasy, discuss the use of literature in reducing stress, good vs. evil, the concept of a hero's journey, critical thinking skills, and some ways to incorporate The Hobbit into snacks and activities for the classroom. Part 2: The second portion of the training will provide participants with lesson plans to use in the classroom that incorporate J.R.R. Tolkien's works. Part 3: The final section of the course gives participants an opportunity to create their own lesson plan for use in their classroom.
