Part 1: In the first section of the training we will look at a biography of Mildred D Taylor and provide a book list of her popular works. We will then dive into cultural awareness and literature. Part 2: The next section of the training will look at understanding a worldview and how stereotypes provide a negative outlook on different cultures. We will also address bias and ways to check your own bias at the door. Part 3: The final section of the training will look at how Taylor's books support cultural differences and the importance of cultural awareness in the classroom. We will also discuss was to teach about other cultures and using literature in your program. The training will also include helpful lesson plans with Taylor's works as the main theme.
