Children with developmental disabilities have difficulty with major life activities and need support to achieve goals, milestones, and complete daily tasks. The information in this online course is presented as an introduction to various types of developmental disabilities and is intended to assist all adults in working better with children of all abilities. This course defines the characteristics and behaviors for various developmental disabilities, distinguishes between what inclusion in child care does and does not require, and outlines the principles of Developmentally Appropriate Practice to identify a variety of modifications that will assist adults in helping children of all abilities be successful in child care.
