Summary
The STEAM Fellows program is a specialized training exclusively for a cohort of teachers, mentors, and coaches from Head Start who learn about STEAM and its application in the early childhood/Headstart classroom. This training focuses on the engineering problem-solving cycle – thinking about a problem, designing a solution, trying it, revising, or making it better and sharing. Teachers see this in practice while learning more about making and coding. We start the day doing small group adult problem-solving when we ask teachers to read a book, identify a problem in the book, and then create a solution. For example, after reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears, the teachers use materials to create a solution, such as a chair that fits Goldilocks. In the afternoon, we focus on problem-solving with coding.
