Summary
Knowledge is not a fixed concept, it is fluid. Knowledge is also not universal; as you travel you may notice that what is known to be true to you may not be the truth for someone else. Knowledge is socially constructed. With this notion in mind James Beane (1996) brings forth four (4) dimensions of curriculum integration. (1) Organizing integration around social problems, (2) integrating pertinent knowledge without regard for subject area lines, (3) knowledge being developed for real world application not test results, and (4) emphasizing activities that involve real application of knowledge.
