Summary
A safe learning environment fosters not only children’s physical safety in the classroom, but their social and emotional safety. This course considers and unpacks the question: “What Is a Safe Learning Environment”, addressing and then moving beyond simply following safety protocols, state regulations, requirements, and other standards. The aim of this course is to gain an understanding of the physical and emotional aspects of safety in early child care settings, learn about the impacts a safe classroom has on teaching, learning, and early childhood care, and explore the various ways to foster safety in the learning environment. Teachers, educators, and administrators will have a better understanding of the complexity of classroom safety in its physical and emotional aspects, the impact a safe learning environment has on children’s learning and development, and how classroom instruction, care, and other daily decisions ensure and foster children’s physical and emotional safety.
