Summary
Stress is a normal part of life, but too much negative stress can lead to trauma and make it difficult to move forward. While some people seem to easily bounce back from adversity, others struggle to overcome negative experiences. Resilience is the ability to adapt or recover from a difficult event. The good news is that it is never too late to develop resiliency; it can be built in childhood and as an adult. This course examines the concepts of stress and trauma and how these are experienced differently by children and adults. It goes on to discuss protective factors - ingredients that serve as a foundation for resiliency - and how these can be developed in the lives of both children and adults. This course will help early childhood educators learn to build resiliency in themselves and in the children in their care.
