Phonological awareness is a set of skills that develop a child's ability to hear and manipulate the sounds in language. Research has demonstrated that phonological awareness is a critical factor for reading success. In order for teachers to effectively support the development of phonological awareness, they must be able to identify phonological awareness skills and tasks in the proper sequence of development. Through interactive learning activities, group discussion forums, classroom examples and videos, and reflective writing exercises participants will learn phonological awareness skills, tasks, and activities to engage children in learning that is targeted and fun.
