This training is about how learning to read begins before children start school. It teaches how to help children learn early literacy skills in preschool using the 5 best practices as outlined by the ALA : Talking Singing Reading Writing and Playing . We discuss why each practice is important and how it affects learning in young children. Book suggestions are given, and videos that demonstrate a few of the practices are shown. This is presented as a large group lecture with power point presentation and question, answer and sharing of ideas as a whole group at the end.
