We discuss the six skills that are necessary for teaching early literacy: Print Motivation, Print Awareness, Vocabulary, Narrative Skills, Phonological Awareness, and Letter Knowledge. Books are suggested for use to teach each particular skill. This workshop can be done with a larger group, in lecture form. At the end, teachers will form smaller groups and be given new books to talk about how they can use them to teach the skills discussed. At the end, everyone can share their thoughts and questions will be answered. This should reinforce that the participants grasped the concepts and which books work best for each literacy skill.
