Summary
This training is about how to incorporate the popular STEAM methods of teaching with books and literacy. We will discuss books that are STEAM related and give lesson plans to go along with them. The philosophy behind why and how to use the STEAM method will also be explained. Hands on activities are included using small groups to solve a problem. The first is about gravity. An opening demonstration to show the magic of science is shown, that grabs students attention. Then a hands on activity called a ball drop is given to small groups of teachers to reach a common goal of making the ball drop through a series of tubes, taking 10 seconds to land on the floor. We explain how to use the method of: 1. Investigate 2. Discover 3. Connect 4. Create 5.Reflect.The second activity is about paper. Another attention getting demonstration is shown, then we move to the hands on activity. Teachers are given sheets of paper, tape and a problem to solve, using the method listed above.
