This training will use our talented NPL’s Wishing Chair Production’s advice on how to effectively use puppets in the classroom. Teachers will learn a bit of puppetry history, about how children connect with puppets, and that puppets can be emotionally supportive for children. This workshop will include a power point with a short video of children interacting with puppets, tips from experienced puppeteers, advice on creating a simple puppet or choosing one that is right for you, and interactive practice using a puppet to discuss problems in small groups, or sharing with the group as a whole depending upon the attendance size. The main goal will be to get teachers comfortable with the use of puppets as a tool in the classroom instead of the technical performing side of puppetry.
